‘Behind Closed Doors’ The Baby Brokers’

‘Behind Closed Doors’  The Baby Brokers

My name is Belinda Conniss, I am a published Author and a member of the association of freelance writers.
My forthcoming book ‘Behind Closed Doors’ The Baby Brokers Which is due for publication around the end of 2019 is now in the process of being written thanks to YOU!
We are all aware of the scandal that has hit the headlines this last few years in regards to the ‘Mother & Baby Home’ Era the ‘Magdalen Laundries’ and ‘Smyllum Park Orphanage’ But to name a few, run not only by the Catholic Faith but Protestant too.
We have seen video’s and heard some of the stories of individuals who suffered the most horrific of crimes committed by the church and of course the illegal adoption by both church & state.
Now you have the opportunity to tell your story through our book, I say OUR Book, because that’s exactly what it is, without your story it would only be my book.
A percentage of the royalties of the said book will be donated between several committees who not only work tirelessly to hold commemorations each year to remember the mothers and children who sadly didn’t make it, but also dedicate their time to those who suffer/suffered (The Survivors) and are fighting for justice for their right to ALL documented records of their families who lived or not, through such atrocities.
I will be in Ireland Feb/March (Exact date to be confirmed) speaking to a couple of people who would like their story told, so please get in touch if you would like to speak to me about your story as I will only be in Ireland once after that which is July for the Sean Ross Abbey Commemorations because I have others to speak to in the U.K.

*** Please note if you are to have your story told you will have to sign a legal document which I have drawn up which will state several things including the following. ***

1. You agree that your story has been told in your own words and edited by me for the purpose of the book.

2. That you have never in the past or up until the time of agreement of your story signed any gagging order preventing you from talking about your experiences or naming any perpetrators.

3. That on request by me (Belinda Conniss) you submit a copy of any document/s that proves you were connected to the institution that you wish to be named. Any document sent to me will remain private & confidential and NEVER passed on to a third party.

4. You will have a copy of your story sent back to you to read over and approve before it is submitted to the book, this will also be your opportunity to add anything you may remember.

5. You will then receive the final copy to read and sign. You may wish to have your story told but have anonymity which is absolutely fine however,  you will still be required to send me documentation about your connection to the said institution and you will still be required to Sign The Legal Document.

6. As I have mentioned previously you will NOT receive any royalties in part or in whole of the published book, instead you will receive a signed copy of the book.
(A percentage of the books royalties will be donated to various committees to help in several areas, the cost of hospitality each year for the Commemorations, help towards the cost of any item in regards to remembering those who passed away in the form of a plaque or bench, expenses etc and or in any way they see fit that helps with the work they do). You will be required to sign this part too.

So please feel free to get in touch with me which you can do either by email or private mail me on facebook Belinda Conniss Published Author Leave me your details and I will get back to you. You can follow here too were you can stay updated with the progress of the book or on my website; http://www.insideoutlastyle.com

Book Design Now Complete

Behind Closed DoorsThe Baby Brokers

I just wanted to keep you all updated on the final design of ‘Behind Closed Doors’ A few adjustments e,g Overall look of the cover.

I am now planning my trip to Ireland around Feb/March 2019 and hope to have you on board, please get in touch if you would like to have a short version of your story included the book.

As I have mentioned before, the royalties for this book will be donated to various committees/organisations to help with the running costs of commemorations etc.

In the event that in the very near future the majority if not all the children buried in unmarked graves will be given a proper burial and named plaques, then all monies raised for the book will also help to pay for such.

However, those who wish to have their story in the book will be credited with their name unless they have asked for anonymity.

It is important that the story/stories I tell are fact and I will have documentation and or links to collaborate such, photographs taken by me will be copyrighted and those that I otherwise obtain will be credited to the source.

Without those who are connected to the Mother Baby Homes telling their stories there is no drive for justice, no mother should have their child taken from their arms, no child should be handed over to complete strangers unless it is a mutual agreement and done so legally.

While I fully understand that there are mothers who had their child taken away without their consent and who hold that secret deep in their heart and children who were taken away from their mothers who do not wish to persue any contact either way, please understand that what took place in such institutions was 1. Against the law and 2. Inhumane.

I cannot imagine my own child being taken from me and handed to another individual to line the pockets of the church and or state and my heart is broken at the thought of those poor little souls in Mass Graves, being buried in nothing but a cloth and with no name.

Behind Closed Doors

‘Behind Closed Doors’ The Baby Brokers

(Secrets that shook the nation, a commodity to the Church & State)

Why have the Church failed to tackle the issue of not only the abuse but the illegal adoption of children in Mother & Baby Homes?

The Clergy e,g many Priests & Nuns had committed the unthinkable yet the Vatican orchestrated and facilitated the cover-up of thousands of raped and abused children, not to mention excepting money in large sums for the illegal adoption of many children.

One of the things that came to my attention while attending the Sean Ross Abbey Commemorations was the fact that they used the word ‘Donation’ I mean Really, They actually called the money they received for children Donations.

Just one of the reasons I have decided to write this book, only, I will be donating (After Overheads) The proceeds not only to Sean Ross Abbey committee but other Mother & baby Homes Committees for the hard work and dedication they do in memory of the lost babies.

Every year the mothers and babies are remembered and with the likes of Sean Ross Abbey having this year July 2018 erected not only a bench but the beautiful plaque (See Above Photo) in their memory which comes from donations, I would like to help others for future projects in keeping that memory alive.

There are many individuals who connected and unconnected to the mother and baby homes who think that they should (Let sleeping dogs lie, for want of a better word).

I may or may not be connected having found through my family tree that members of my own Irish family lived in Tuam (Still in the process of research) However, I am in full support of the survivors having not only justice but to have ALL documentation relating to their families released and for them to have named plots to remember those who were sadly buried in unmarked graves.

The Story – Mass Grave

The story of Sean Ross Abbey came to my attention after hearing of the ‘Tuam Babies’ Were approximately 796 children died between 1925-1961 and I say children lightly because it’s believed that most were infants.

What bothers me is the fact that they were buried in a Mass Grave, I cannot understand why or how anyone could be so cold as not to give them a proper burial? (With all the ‘Donations’ as the church called them) then why? They made enough money out of the illegal sale of other children.

But it’s not just all of the above that has touched my heart, it’s the forgotten mothers, the mothers whom the church denied, whom the church called a disgrace to society, and the children whom they shipped off without a care in the world, the lies that they told the mothers and children, the falsification of documents for which they clearly thought would never come to light.

Whilst I am researching every angel of this horrific and heartbreaking story I need you, were you or someone you know connected to the mother and baby homes? If so please get in touch if you would like a little of your story told.

You can still have your side of the story told even if you would prefer anonymity your private information will NOT be published if you don’t want it to.

You can private mail me on the links below and I will call you with arrangements.

Mother & Baby Homes – Behind Closed Doors – The Baby Brokers

In Support of All Mothers & Children of Sean Ross Abbey & All Mother and Baby Homes.

In the last 35 years or so I had learned of the Magdalene Laundries and why exactly young girls had been sent there and more recently after hearing of the Tuam Babies Scandal (Which broke my heart) decided that I wanted to understand more of what was happening in these places.

Five years ago I was invited to the Sean Ross Abbey Commemorations but unfortunately due to other commitments was unable to attend the first three, but did however attend the fourth and this years Commemorations in Roscrea, Tipperary Ireland.

After attending the last year accompanied by my husband we decided that we would show our support every year from then on.

‘Not long after our return from last years 2017, it was all over the news about Smyllum Park Orphanage only seven miles from my own home town’

I am happy to say that this years Commemorations at Sean Ross Abbey was of much bigger attendance and I hope each year will be bigger and bigger.

This year we had the unveiling of the Bench & Newly made Plaque in memory of Sean Ross Abbey Mothers & Children.

I have now decided to add to my page on  Facebook   more support for the cause, one of the things I have learned through doing my own Family Tree is that I am able to get access to some Irish records over here in Scotland that the those in Ireland are unable to.

I also want to help fight for those in the Republic of Ireland to be able to have the right to gain access to their Birth Certificate & All Documentation in relation to those who have been Adopted.

The U.K. have the legal right to all such documents and it should be no different to the Republic of Ireland. Re: Freedom of Information Act 2014

I have a new book in the pipeline ‘Behind Closed Doors’ The Baby Brokers I will be keeping everyone up to date with the progress and publication date in due course.

I will be looking for individuals who have a connection to the Mother and baby homes who would like to share their story. The purpose of this book is not only to have a short version of your story told but to donate to the Sean Ross Abbey Committee and others in Funding the amazing work they do and will continue to do in keeping the memory of loved one’s alive and so much more. If you are interested in talking to me please get in touch on messenger or my Website: www.insideoutlastyle.com you can also email me: belindaconnissofficial@outlook.com

Coming Together In #Solidarity

Sean Ross Abbey Commemorations. Roscrea, Co Tipperary, Ireland

You know they say ‘Do Not Judge Me, Unless You Have Walked In My Shoes’ and boy there has never been a truer saying that’s for sure.

On Sunday 27th August 2017, I attended the Sean Ross Abbey Mother & Baby commemorations held in Roscrea, Co Tipperary and what an emotional day it was.

This year was the fourth such commemorations, unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the first three due to being out of the country, however I made no plans for this year so that I could be there.

I was sent a link back when it became public knowledge that there were remains of babies/children found in a septic tank back in Ireland so of course I followed the story which led me to Sean Ross Abbey, with I might add a broken heart.

The more I heard the more I felt the pain of all those who have and still do suffer at the atrocities that took place back then.

There have been some protest over the commemorations/remembrance of those who suffered and those still living to tell the tale, which has made me wonder just how they can sweep it under the carpet as if it were something and nothing?

I spoke to several people who had their own story to tell and it made me quite tearful at times, so many people have not only lost their child through death but them being shipped out to families many across the pond.

What gave those involved in this horrible, cold and evil act the right to take a child from their mother and think that it was normal practice because she was a (In their words) Fallen woman?

Who made those involved Judge & Jury in deciding what was right for the mother of that child?

And who in their right mind would take a child who had died and put them in a septic tank? Harsh words I know, but that’s exactly what it was.

We can all sit back and feel sorry or pity for what happened, but that isn’t going to make what happened any lighter on the broken hearts of the mothers or the relatives of those who suffered.

Those that knew and or were involved should be brought to court and made to admit what they done and hold their hands up, they need to say sorry and admit that this should never have happened.

This is about the corruption, ill-treatment, pain, sorrow, deaths and much more besides. They should hang their heads in shame.

I met Philomena Lee who is such a remarkable lady, if you haven’t yet watched her story then you should, Philomena’s story is just one of many that highlights what happened back then when she had her own son taken from her and she went on to search for him with the help of her daughter Jane an inspiration to many as is her mother.

Philomena is a very forgiving lady, I’m not sure that I could be so forgiving in those circumstances but I would like to think that I could. ‘The Lost Child of Philomena’

There are many people who simply cannot forgive and I really don’t blame them but I take my hat off to those who have.

Sean Ross Abbey is not about having revenge it’s about having the right not only to remember loved one’s and have a place in which they will rest but to have named graves for those who have died.

The people of Roscrea and other parts of Ireland have the right to have documentation handed over to them, instead it is being kept from them which only leads to the conclusion that there is much more being kept secret?

I/We will continue to support the rights of the people who have suffered and are still suffering.

The graves of an unknown number of mothers and Babies are sadly located in unmarked areas known as ‘Angels Plot’

The story also unfolds at Tuam, in Galway and I have to admit it does leave me wondering how many more of these mother & baby homes MAY be just like them?

My Name Is Joan – Watch Trailer Here

I was extremely fortunate in meeting Susan this month at the Sean Ross Abbey Commemorations in Roscrea, Co Tipparary, Ireland.

A lovely lady with like many others a very sad story to tell, I recommend you watch the trailer and share wherever possible to highlight and support those who have gone through similar circumstances.

There are still many people out there who have yet to trace their mothers and fathers through what I can only describe as the darkest period of one’s life.

My Name is Joan” tells the story of Susan Drew, a woman who was born Joan Fagan to an unwed mother in the St. Patrick Mother and Baby Home in DublinIreland in 1949.  While the documentary chronicles Susan’s journey to find her true identity, it also highlights the illegal exporting of children by the Catholic Church to families in other countries for profit while the Irish Government looked the other way.  The Irish Government still denies adopted children access to their information even though forced adoption affects at least a quarter of the Irish population.  In 2015, an inquiry into Mother and Baby Homes was launched and the results are due out in 2018.  Many believe the inquiry will not shed light on what really happened to mothers and their children in these homes, and the Government is dragging their feet and hoping the issue will die as the people who were directly affected or engineered the illegal adoptions die.
