Survival, it comes at a price. ‘Becoming a survivor was a choice’.

Coming to Amazon Dec 2020, a compilation of stories and poetry, sometimes we experience situations in life that test our patience, some may fall and find it hard to get back up, some are so mentally scarred it can change their outlook on life and their perception of those around them.

Mental, emotional, physical and or sexual abuse can have such a serious impact on those on the receiving end, but it also has an effect on those around them, trust becomes an issue, loyalty can become an issue as well as anger, hate and much more besides.

To talk to someone about the abuse one is suffering and or suffered can be extremely difficult, the individual on the receiving end of abuse feeling that somehow they are at fault, preventing them from talking to those who can help as well as being afraid that if they do the consequences will be much worse.

Survival, it comes at a price was written in the hope that it may help give inspiration to others, some of the poetry and stories relating to my past experiences helped put my own demons to bed, some of which I had written several years ago, and some of the poems were published in my first book of poetry ‘Tears On My Pillow’ (Available on Amazon).

There are choices, although we don’t realise this at the time, because fear rules our head. I survived, and you can too, abuse of any kind is NOT OKAY! However, it IS OKAY to talk to someone, it is okay to ask for help.

Survival, it comes at a price is not all doom and gloom, there are happy memories and sentiments too, and I will be donating a percentage of the books sales to charity, I will be talking to charities namely those who support victims of abuse including children.

Once I have confirmed the charity who will be receiving the donations I will update here on the website, the book will be available from Amazon worldwide and here on the website.

(Why I decided to write; Survival, it comes at a price)

As an advocate and supporter of the survivors of the former mother and baby homes/institutions run by religious orders, and through research and my discovering the atrocities and abuse that took place then and even now, which I have to add is so appalling, I wanted to go further than just writing my previous published book, Behind Closed Doors ‘The Baby Brokers’ (Available on Amazon, worldwide) Also with donations being made to (Facebook Group) WE ARE STILL HERE who are the survivors of Sean Ross Abbey, Roscrea, Tipperary.

Several months ago I learned that my abuser, (Who I always felt would go on to abuse other children) Was sentenced in 2016 to fourteen years for the rape and abuse of others. Something that I told to only two people later in my life, but knowing now that he has been caught I no longer have to keep that secret.

If I can help prevent even one child from being abused, or even just one woman/man from being at the other end of a fist, then I know I have done something right, although I do plan to help more than one woman/man and child.

Those who follow me here, on https://twitter.com/BelindaConniss7 on https://facebook.com/belindaconnisspublishedauthor and https://facebook.com/sofatalkmedia and or my sister website belindaconnissofficial.org will by now know that I am in pre-production of my forthcoming documentary, filming begins in Tipperary April 2021. Assuming it is safe to do so with COVID-19 and (Government Guidelines) as it had to be rescheduled from April 2020.

I am also researching and investigating several other former religiously run institutions for future podcasts and documentaries for which I am currently speaking with individuals who were incarcerated in such, I will be traveling down south once it’s safe to do so to speak with one gentleman whom I already have some of his story and who was in the former Smyllum Park Orphanage in Lanark, more of this will be updated in due course.

If there is anyone who has had a connection to any of the above and or other, and who would like to speak to me about their own story then please get in touch with me here on the contact form or private mail me on social media.

Your details and or story will be private in the first instance, if you wish to appear on future podcasts and or documentaries then let me know, if you wish to remain anonymous that can be arranged too, any correspondence between you and I will remain private.

It is ok to not be ok!

It is ok to say NO!

It is ok to seek help!

It is ok to talk to someone you trust!

It is ok to talk to me!

So, #letstalk
