West Lothian Write

Tonight I took myself off to Howden Part Theatre I was in the company of local writers reading poetry, and storytelling.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Alan Bissett was unable to attend, but there was a stand-in called Magi.

Magi was ‘Reader in Residence’ with Glasgow Women’s Library from 2012 – 2015, where she ran many creative writing workshops and hosted poets from across the world. She is a patron of the Federation of Writers Scotland and her first play, Our Boys, received a Tom McGrath Award in 2016.

The session was an opportunity to present a short piece of writing (up to six minutes) in a supportive environment. It was recommended that we practice and time our reading as the event is very popular, with reading places limited.

I hadn’t taken any of my work to read as it was my first experience and wasn’t sure what to expect I have to say I enjoyed it a lot.

I’m definitely looking forward to more and it’s given me a few ideas and a taste to write more than I have been.
