Sad, Lonely & A Long Way From Home

Extract From Chapter 4

Kippers for Breakfast

I started taking breakfast plates through to the dining room to the guests and couldn’t help but notice most were American and Canadian, and what an unusual breakfast they had; some had kippers and iced tea, others had pancakes with syrup and some had both.

Oh dear, I loved kippers but not for breakfast and the smell was so strong. The amount of times I served kippers over time has put me off them for life; now I can’t even bear to smell them let alone eat them.
They seemed nice people though; very chatty and left very good tips which we would leave in a jar until the end of the week and share between us all.
