To woo global tourists, the city’s government has launched the first Shanghai International Consumption Season which runs from 6 July to mid-October.
The initiative, “Shanghai Summer,” aims to welcome visitors across a range of concerts, music festivals, cultural and art performances, and major sports events in partnership with eight domestic conglomerates.
In the first two months of 2024, local cultural and tourism agencies report that Shanghai has received over 700,000 inbound visitors—up 300% year on year. Data provided by Trip.com in Europe has found a surge in travel to China, with Shanghai “solidifying its status as a premier travel destination for European tourists'' .
