The average number of daily border entries and exits during the approaching Spring Festival holiday is expected to reach 1.8 million, returning to the level in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, the immigration authority said on Sunday.
The number is expected to be approximately 3.3 times higher than that in the same period last year, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) said.
The daily average border crossings are predicted to be 83,000 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, 39,000 at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, 36,000 at Beijing Capital International Airport, and 16,000 at Hangzhou Xiaoshan and Chengdu Tianfu International Airports respectively.
The NIA issued specific instructions, requiring border inspection agencies nationwide to enhance monitoring of immigration flow and port operations. They are to promptly release information on local immigration flow and provide references for the public.
These agencies are also ordered to deploy sufficient forces to ensure that Chinese citizens' crossing border inspection queues do not exceed 30 minutes.
