The CEO of Trip.com has pointed to strong pent-up demand among Chinese tourists as evidence that the regional and global travel industry is poised for recovery in 2022. Speaking at the company’s 2021 Global Partner Summit in Macau on Thursday, Jane Sun said the group’s performance over the past year showed positive growth trends that reflected a desire among Chinese citizens to resume travel as border restrictions begin to ease.
However, she was particularly bullish on Macau, which she said has “great potential in the tourism market.”
A series of five promotional roadshows held in mainland China in 2021 with the goal of boosting tourism to Macau attracted 1.9 million visitors and 550 million online views, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
