China's domestic tourism market will record 10 billion visits per year on average, with the consumption reaching RMB 10 trillion (USD 1.5 trillion) in the next five years, according to a report issued by the China Tourism Academy.
In 2019, China recorded over six billion domestic tourist trips.
The report added that China saw over 145 million inbound tourist trips in 2019, and its annual tourism revenue topped RMB 6.63 trillion.
In the next five years, the contribution of China's domestic tourism market to the national economy and employment will likely stay above 10%, according to the report.
China's domestic tourism industry recovered rapidly from the pandemic. A total of 637 million trips were made across China during the National Holiday, 79% of last year's number, according to the culture and tourism ministry.
