HNA Group has been committed to internationalization in recent years. The affiliated Hainan Airlines has consecutively obtained the title of SKYTRAX five-star airlines for years and was in rank of ten safest airlines for three times assessed by the world-famous German air safety agency.
In response to HNA group's internationalization call after it was ranked as one of Fortune 500 enterprises in 2015, Hainan Airlines set up the European division to improve international image, expand overseas business and promote internationalization.
The European division was formally set up in January 2016, based in Brussels and aiming to support Hainan Airlines European flight operation.
It is learnt from Hainan Airlines flight department, Hainan Airlines will have 320 aircraft with Boeing 737, 767, 787, Airbus A330 and A350 as its main aircraft type, with around 2400 pilots, of which 600 are foreign pilots by 2020.
Currently Hainan Airlines has 161 aircraft and 192 foreign pilots, flying more than 500 domestic and international routes covering America, Europe, Africa and Oceania.
The airlines' parent company HNA Group has made successful global acquisitions to the tune of USD 17 billion in the past year and is still on a shopping spree, eyeing overseas equities such as Gategroup in Switzerland, forex provider ICE and Monarch Airlines in UK.
